Villari's Martial Arts Centres Aurora

Our Instructors!

Master Timothy N. Wakefield, 7th Degree Black Belt

Tim Wakefield began his training 30 years ago in search of a way of defending himself from a schoolyard bully. This led him to enroll in the Villari’s Self Defense Center in Richmond Hill under the tutelage of 8th Degree Black Belt Master Instructor, Henry Choo Chong. Through the study of the Shaolin Kempo Karate system, Master Wakefield learned to deal with the bully and discover the possibilities that lay ahead.

Since then, Master Wakefield has expanded his knowledge of the martial arts and achieved additional senior certifications that include Muso Jikiden-Eishin Ryu Iaido-5th Dan (CKF), 7 Star Northern Praying Mantis Kung-fu (9th Generation Master), Tai Chi (Senior Sifu),  and Kobudo. His experience also includes 14 years of Ninpo Taijutsu (Ninja), various hard style Karate methods, Wing Chun, Arnis/Escrima, Tae Kwon Do (1st Dan), Aikido, Judo as well as experiencing MMA and Brazilian Jujutsu. His interests also include ancient Eastern culture, history, and philosophical concepts.

Although he experienced all of these Arts, Tim’s main focus remained in Villari’s Shaolin Kempo Karate. In 1998 he was invited to train with Grandmaster Villari directly, and in 2010 was awarded the 7th Degree Black Belt.

He has competed and placed in numerous National, Invitational & International events, including a silver medal in full-contact Kobudo Kumite (Old-style Weapons Sparring).

He has also participated in, and conducted seminars and demonstrations throughout Ontario and the Eastern United States.Master Wakefield is the Chief Instructor of the Villari’s Martial Arts Centre in Aurora, and assistant Director of the schools in Ontario

In addition to 5 years of military service with the Queen's Own Rifles of Canada, Master Wakefield spent almost 10 years as a Training Supervisor in Toronto for several private security firms, where he had the opportunity to instruct in Defensive Tactics and Use of Force. Tim has also acted as a consultant to the Metropolitan Toronto Polices' Public Order Unit.

Tim takes a pragmatic and practical approach to the study of the Martial Arts and hopes to be the best example of such for his students, in the Way of Shaolin Kempo Karate.
